Gravity Defying Spectacular Performance by China’s Nantong Acrobatic Troupe

Spent the past month in China touring and competing across 4 cities as a participant on a sponsored trip to celebrate 端午節 (Dragon Boat Festival). I travelled with a mixed crew of dragon boaters made up from clubs across Sydney, regional NSW, Canberra and Argentina and took home a medal, a trophy along with way too many iPhone photos with memories to saviour. I also had the rare opportunity to photograph a performance from the multi award winning Nantong Acrobatic Troupe 南通市少年雜技團 during our stay.

There is a famous Chinese idiom, 台上三分鐘丶台下10年功 three minutes of glory on stage, ten years of hard work offstage. China’s rich history of acrobatics dates back more than 2500 years, a tradition that arose from village harvest festivals and the everyday skills of peasants, sailors and local craftsmen. Their show did not disappoint.
