Shhhhhhh… its a library, not a party…

Before I was asked to photograph Nicholas’ 50th birthday event the other day, I did not even realised that the State Library of NSW hosts functions. It is afterall, a library and with my preconceptions of libraries, they are quiet sanctuaries, vaults of knowledge kept orderly by some elderly women with glasses. They are certainly no place for food let alone wine and *gasp* god forbid song and laughter!

Guests arrived in various disguises in accordance with the evening’s masquerade theme. The venue was a perfectly fitting ambience and size for this intimate and refined soiree which was all about fine gourmet dishes, wine and a catch up amongst close friends. To cap the night off, a surprise act from the famed Phantom of the Opera belted out tunes from the musical and literally got guests out of their seats!
